Big changes are in store for carriers and the companies that hire them, as FMCSA rolls out its new Comprehensive Safety Analysis (CSA) 2010 safety program nationwide. CSA will be used to identify and correct high-risk carriers and drivers, with the goal of improving safety for everyone on the road. A few key points to remember:
- CSA 2010 replaces SafeStat with a new Safety Measurement System (SMS) that relies heavily on roadside inspections.
- Carriers will be ranked according to seven Behavioral Analysis Safety Improvement Categories (BASICs)
- Five of the seven CSA BASIC scores will be available on the FMCSA web site, beginning no sooner than mid-December. Lower scores are better.
- If you hire carriers, get CarrierWatch® to validate and monitor CSA scores, authority and insurance records for all the carriers you use.
- TransCore now offers a CSA Industry Benchmark Report allowing you to compare your carriers against reported scores for interstate for-hire carriers. Sign up here!
