Frequently Asked Questions

How does Transcore's GPS technology enable geofencing?

True geofencing means that the position fix is calculated on the terminal itself. This means that the terminal on your trailer reports its own position relative to the terminal as well as to the dispatch center.

Other systems that rely on back office processing can only determine asset location once a signal is received. This approach require additional over-the-air messaging and may require more airtime.

TransCore’s tracking terminals are accurate, fast and efficient – an important security advantage in geofencing.

Does tracking help if another company loads my trailer by mistake?

TransCore’s Satellite tracking uses advanced GPS to quickly locate a trailer before it’s gone too far. Slap & Track can locate your trailer in 30 minutes or less, reducing delays when minutes really count.

Can I tell if a perishable load has really exceeded temperature limits?

If your customer rejects a load at the dock, our Sense & Track terminals can accurately record the temperature inside your reefers and warn you when the load is about to exceed predetermined thresholds. You can retrieve documented proof of load temperature throughout the haul, anytime, anywhere.

What types of equipment are compatible with TransCore’s mobile terminals?

TransCore’s terminals are mounted on containers, storage tanks, pipelines, generators, compressors, reefers – to name a few. The heavy equipment industry has long used tracking to find assets in widespread areas. Less costly than on-site visits, satellite tracking gives you surveillance at your fingertips.

How does tracking help me find stolen or abandoned trailers?

Trailers equipped with Slap & Track or Sense & Track monitors have built-in geofencing. If your trailer was stolen or abandoned you’d be able to find it in 30 minutes or less. If the load is perishable, the longer it’s gone, the less likely successful recovery becomes.

I speak to drivers daily and perform regular yard checks. Why would I want to install a trailer tracking and cargo sensing solution?

Check calls and yard checks are time-consuming, error-prone and costly, in terms of time and resources. With Sense & Track, you can poll all trailers in your fleet twice a day, to receive a full report of their location, cargo status, proximity to a pick-up or delivery location, dwell time and other key metrics. You can use this information to streamline dispatch or provide it to customers, to improve communication and service.

Why would I choose a satellite-based trailer tracking solution instead of a cell phone-based service?

Here are the two most common reasons why carriers prefer trailer tracking based on GPS satellite transmission to a cellular technology-based solution:

1. Satellite reception is reliable in all terrains, regardless of elevation or distance from cell towers
2. Sense & Track monitors cargo status, internal temperature, door position, trailer hitch/unhitch as well as trailer location, speed and direction, so you can prevent theft, manage fleet assets and deploy them cost-effectively

What parameters can I monitor with Sense & Track?

Sense & Track offers a variety of sensor options, including:

  • Cargo loaded/empty
  • Temperature
  • Door open/close
  • Trailer hook/unhook
  • Tire pressure
  • Start/stop
  • Multi-point geofencing
