CarrierWatch Q&A

What are the DAT Directory and CarrierWatch?

If you view Carrier Snapshots from a TransCore 3sixty load board, you are already accessing the DAT Directory to view DOT Authority and Insurance information. Click on the Carrier Snapshot links or any company name from a truck search to continue accessing this information.

Subscribers to CarrierWatch can also view detailed safety and insurance data and reduce the effort involved with carrier validation. One page carrier profiles can be quickly saved to your desktop or printed as evidence of your due diligence.

To monitor carriers using CarrierWatch, simply make a list of the carriers you use, and CarrierWatch will alert you of any changes in DOT authority, Safety Ratings, CSA 2010 BASICs scores or DOT-reported insurance. Keeping up-to-date with your carrier partners has never been easier.

For more protection add CarrierWatch Premium, the e-certificate service to view insurance certificates online as well as print them.

CarrierWatch is the only carrier monitoring service endorsed by the Transportation Intermediaries Association (TIA).

What's new about fraud protection?

CarrierWatch's improved Alias Search helps identify carriers trying to hide revoked authority or bad safety records. It searches through our entire database of 500,000 brokers and carriers, past and present, to find companies that have conducted business using the same location, phone, or fax number as your carrier.

What's new that helps me validate carriers faster?

CarrierWatch now includes color-coded icons and warning labels which quickly alert you to issues with a carrier's authority, safety or insurance information. See yellow caution and red warning flags right in your Watchlist to see which of your monitored carriers have issues needing investigation. View a carrier's detail page to see a summary of the areas of concern, such as revoked authority, a bad safety record or cancelled insurance.

More detailed carrier snapshots also mean all the information you need is now on one page. Save or print a timestamped version as a record of your due diligence.

How many carriers can I monitor?

You can now watch an unlimited number of carriers with CarrierWatch. Basic level monitoring—which includes DOT authority, Safety Ratings, CSA 2010 BASICs scores or DOT-reported insurance—can be activated on any carrier in the CarrierWatch database. Add a carrier to your Watchlist at the Basic level and you will receive notifications whenever the carrier loses its authority, has changes to its safety ratings or CSA Scores or cancels its Active DOT Insurance.

Monitoring carriers at the Premium level, which includes e-certificates of insurance from the agent, is limited by your subscription. Premium users can monitor an unlimited amount of carriers at the Basic level and a limited number at the Premium level. Contact us to learn more.

Is CSA 2010 data now available?

The foundation of the FMCSA's CSA 2010 initiative is a new Safety Measurement System (SMS) which shows where carriers stand on each of seven Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories (BASICs). The BASICs are Unsafe Driving, Fatigued Driving (Hours-of-Service), Driver Fitness, Controlled Substances/Alcohol, Vehicle Maintenance, Cargo-Related and Crash Indicator.

CSA 2010 data is now available in the DAT Directory and CarrierWatch.

I have CarrierWatch integrated with my TMS. Do I need to change anything?

No you don't need to change anything, unless you want to take advantage of the new features that are now available such as:

  • A hybrid Watchlist that includes carriers monitored at both the Basic and Premium levels.
  • Additional data fields. The new CarrierWatch download file includes a lot of information that was not available before.
  • Last update dates. The new XML version of the download file includes last update dates, for each carrier and for each section. With these dates, you can speed up file processing and ignore records that have not changed.

Can I download CSA2010 data?

Yes. We do not want to break any integration work you have done in the past, so you will need to make a specific request to have this feature turned on. The CSA 2010 section will be available in both the current version of the download (version 1.0) and the new improved download format (version 2.0). For detailed specifications, please go to the resources section of the CarrierWatch web site.
